Why Muslims Can't Defend Themselves, and What Should Muslim Media Do About It?

What can Muslims do to help Islam become better accepted in today’s Western world?
Top priority: Show that Muslims are not terrorists, but just trying to fit in and be good citizens.

Scare headlines about Islamic terrorism constantly reinforce the image problem for Muslims in the West. Anti-Muslim feelings from 9/11 or the London July 7th tube bombings won't just fade away. Can Muslims and their media counter this bad publicity?

Most Muslims do their part every day by fitting in and being good citizens. Yet the quiet efforts of millions can be wiped away by the hysteria over a single rogue. Each time, the result can be a new war by the US and UK on a Muslim country, and further repression of civil liberties worldwide.

Is there something Muslims need to do beyond good behavior in their host countries?

By all means, says London-based Nick Kollerstrom, author of the new book, Terror on the Tube. In fact, one theory he covers in his book is that the four Muslim "lads from Leeds," who disappeared in the London Tube bombings on 7/7/2005, were a bit too eager to be good citizens: they were participating in an anti-terror drill on 7/7! They were framed, and not terrorists at all.

Many Muslims in the UK remain skeptical to this approach, however. Even if Muslims were innocent, might not Westerners be offended to hear such arguments from Muslims? The mainstream media would call them self-serving and outrageous; it might actually worsen the Muslim image.

What do the Quran and the Prophet have to say about it?

Sura 2:251 Al-Baqara (The Cow): If God had not enabled people to defend themselves against one another, corruption would surely overwhelm the earth. (Just what we see happening!)

From the Hadith of Salih Bukhari: Allah's Apostle said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, "O Allah's Apostle! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing others."

Due to the overwhelming prevalence of the corrupt media, which are closely intertwined with the imperialist spy agencies, many Muslims in the West have also fallen for the propaganda about Islamic terrorism. There isn't space here to prove these incidents are just elaborate charades (and we do want people to buy the book! Read it, and write reviews). But Terror on the Tube shows that the four accused on 7/7 had neither the means, the motive nor the opportunity to carry out the Tube bombings -- while Blair's regime did. No reliable evidence implicates the four, while a great deal points to the British police state.

Often people won't look at evidence, because they can't accept the implications. For example, 9/11. It was obvious from the start, and has since been scientifically proven beyond any doubt, that the three WTC towers were demolished by explosives, not by airplanes. Yet many people can't absorb this.

So let us discuss the Muslim's relation to truth. That may make it easier to have the courage to read, understand, and decide for oneself what is true.

What does the Holy Quran say about speaking the truth? -- Is "Discretion the Better Part of Valor?" Actually, no.

Al-Baqara (The Cow).

2:42 "Do not knowingly suppress the truth."

2:90 "For those who deny the truth, there is shameful suffering in store."

Al-Ahzab (The Confederates)

33:35 … "Men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth... Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward."

33:70 "Speak with a will to bring out what is just and true."

Hadith

"Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (pbuh) as saying: 'It is obligatory for you to tell the truth, for truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise.'" (Sahih Muslim)

"He [Mohamed, pbuh] orders us to pray, to speak the truth, to be chaste and to keep good relations with our Kith and kin." (Sahih Bukhari).

This last hadith indicates that in speaking the truth one should be polite as well as firm. We can defend our rights while remaining cordial to our neighbours. The Prophet is quoted as saying, "Speak to people according to their understanding." Yet the phrase "Discretion is the Better Part of Valor" is not found in the Quran. It only appears in al-Maududi's chapter introductions to the Quran -- in explaining why Caesar retreated when his army outnumbered the Muslims seven to one.

Islam started as a tiny minority in Arabia. The Prophet and his followers had to suffer repression and fight for their lives, as well as for the truth. The intrigues of the Qureish were every bit as insidious as the false-flag terror tactics used against the Muslims today.

But are those examples of long ago still valid? Yes. Experience has shown that faith, courage and solidarity are the best survival strategies for ethnic minorities and political prisoners to resist and survive. Under pressure, there is a tendency for victims to identify with their tormentors, to sign and even to believe false confessions. Against this weakness, a firm religious belief in the truth is one of the best defenses.

Brainwashing is not limited to prison camps. The mainstream media will try to bully Muslims into believing the absurd fairy tales about Islamic terrorists, who in reality are only pathetic, deluded patsies hired by MI5 or the CIA for their agenda. (Recent examples: accused synagogue bombers protest they were recruited and hired to do it by FBI informant. Or the Detroit Christmas Day incident: see "Nigerian Terrorist Patsy Yet Another CIA Ploy" at www.tarpley.net .)

Today's "Qureish" are just as skilled at inverting the meaning of words. Take the "conspiracy theory" label. Of course September 11th and July 7th were conspiracies, if not carried out by one person alone. But if the media and the government accuse suspects who couldn't possibly have done it, it's not called a "conspiracy theory." Only directing attention to the state agencies which did have the means, motive and opportunity makes you a "loony conspiracy theorist."

We aren't asking people to become card-carrying conspiracy theorists. We do say that if someone is trying to stand up for you, it's only fair to at least give them a hearing! By some reports, 25% of the US population already figure 9/11 was "fabricated" by the government, and 90% in Middle Eastern countries. Yet Muslims are conspicuous by their absence in the ranks of the "truthers." Clearly, strong pressures isolate them and hold them hostage to the official mainstream propaganda.

Muslim media in the West generally try to cope with the current crusade against Islam by burying their heads in the sand for comfort. Often they concentrate exclusively on religion. This is necessary, but not sufficient. "Trust in God, but tie your camel first." Did prayers stop the Mongols from devastating half the Islamic world? The Mongols achieved their monstrous success not only through military prowess, but also intrigue, disinformation, and divide-and-conquer, very like the present adversary. (If not the same one… The Venetians, who went on to found the British empire, were the eyes and ears of the Mongols. Neutralizing Islam has always been on that agenda.)

When Muslim media do cover politics and the news, they are at pains to stay within the limits of discourse acceptable to their Western hosts. Such efforts to please are doomed to fail. The Anglo-American distrusts the man who does not stand up and defend himself. Silence is guilt.

We hope at least to start Muslims thinking about how to counter the libel of the terrorist label. How else is Dawah, Muslim missionary work, ever going to succeed? Muslim media in the West can help the Muslim community by spreading this message. One place to start is by reviewing our books and interviewing our authors, who have worked so hard to expose the real terrorists, to exonerate the Muslims, and to free us all from the endless unjust wars against the Muslim world.

In the final analysis, it is not only about the fate of Islam. It is about our common destiny. We are accustomed to regard Muslims as the innocent victims of imperialist aggression, as indeed they are. Yet there is another side. By tacitly accepting false terrorist accusations against them, Muslims in the West have also become complicit in great evil, not only against those Muslim nations under attack, but against mankind. Through unnecessary timidity, Muslims have become guilty of letting themselves be used to smooth the path of our money and power-mad rulers in constructing a world police state. This is Islam turned upon and against itself. Submission to Satan is not the true Islam. Allah sent Mohammed's message to benefit humanity.

How is the average non-Muslim supposed to know that Islam is not terrorism, when the Western media repeat this constantly, and the Muslim media do not demur?

9/11 has taught us that our media, whom we believed were somehow related to truth, are thoroughly censored. While pretending to present "all sides," they are adept at subtly suppressing exposés of the truth, sidelining or filtering out facts that would threaten the power structure they belong to.

Although Muslim media may not be owned by big corporations, they may depend on donations from the Saudis and Wahhabis, who have been clients of the British empire since the 18th century. These neocolonialist elites have implanted a vanilla-flavored Islam in a social and political vacuum. The resulting self-censorship has deprived the Muslim community of the means to defend itself. Our best weapon is the truth about 9/11 and all the rest of the state-sponsored terrorism. To refuse to take it up and defend oneself is to surrender to the enemy.
